R.I.P. January 5, 2007
From: Wayne Lockett - IUS Rampage

(Received just prior to Don’ passing.)
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you and your staff for making the Sun Bowl tournament so special for me and my team. It was a very good experience for us. You are a very caring individual and it shows in your devotion to this tournament and the people you touch. Thank you.

From: Jonny Jerome et Dino Testani - Referees, Quebec, Canada

Our Deepest sympathy for the loss of Mr. Don Mulligan from all of the Quebec referees that participated at the 2006 Tampa Bay Sun Bowl Tournament.

From: Larry Bernfeld - Coach, ABGC Scorepedoes (U-16 Boys)
Please express our condolences to the family of Don Mulligan and to his friends that are involved in the tournament. He did a great job and was a nice man. I got the opportunity to talk a little with him over by the awards tent and found him to be both engaging and charming and a true lover of the sport. He did a great job and he ran a wonderful tournament which he and the entire staff can be proud of. We had a great time.

A quick aside......

Again, please express our condolences from all of us here in Annandale to the entire Tampa Bay Sun Bowl family on Mr. Mulligan’s passing.

From: Paul James - State Youth Referee Administrator, North Carolina
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Don Mulligan. I have personally enjoyed his support and friendship during North Carolina’s long association with the Sun Bowl Tournament. I know our officials have always enjoyed meeting with Don and have benefitted greatly from his support and generosity. His passing will be a tremendous loss to soccer in Tampa especially but also to all of us who have been associated with him and the Sunbowl for so many years.

I am sure I speak for all North Carolina referees who have had the privilege of being associated with Don in one capacity or another over the years. We will all miss a great statesman for the game and a genuinely loved and respected human being. You, Don’s family, and the rest of the Sunbowl tournament group have our deepest sympathies.

From: Anne Johnson - Travel Coordinator, ’91 Norcross Fury Gold

This was our third year participating in the Sun Bowl and we consider the tournament one of the best on our schedule. Over the years, I, personally, have had many e-mail and phone conversations with Mr. Mulligan and I am sure asked many obvious and ridiculous questions. He was, however, always prompt, courteous and professional in his responses and a pleasure to work with. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Mr. Mulligan’s family as well as his Tampa Bay Sun Bowl family

From: Barbara Riso - U-15 Boys Team, Columbia, Maryland

We attended the tournament last week, and I was very sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I just wanted to send my sympathy to all of you who worked with him and to his family. Don went out of his way to help me register my team and even gave me information for restaurants and directions! I appreciated his kindness to an out of town guest.

From: Mike Pursell - Secretary, Dynamo FC, Indianapolis / parent, Dynamo Katner 90

Many happy memories are owed to Don and the group of TBSB volunteers. Don’s attention to detail and responsiveness had all of those playing, prepared for a wonderful soccer experience. Our sincerest condolences to Don’s family and many dear friends.
